Rest Assured
Despite the advancement of science and technology, human beings suffer labor and burdens in families and work places busy and restless. Rest is God's command as revealed through Moses, the great leader of Israel. “Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. You have six days in which to do your work, but the seventh day is a day of rest dedicated to me. On that day no one is to work—neither you, your children, your slaves, your animals, nor the foreigners who live in your country. In six days I, the Lord, made the earth, the sky, the seas, and everything in them, but on the seventh day I rested. That is why I, the Lord, blessed the Sabbath and made it holy." (Exodus 20:8-11) Efforts of human hands and mind fail in society, organisation and country where they thwart this divinely appointed rule of labour. Six and one, six for you and one for him. Systems of slavery can be traced by disobedience of this commandment of God which God does not approve denial of rest on any grounds then or now. "Then the Lord said, 'I have seen how cruelly my people are being treated in Egypt; I have heard them cry out to be rescued from their slave drivers. I know all about their sufferings, and so I have come down to rescue them from the Egyptians and to bring them out of Egypt to a spacious land, one which is rich and fertile'" (Exodus 3:7-8). As followers of Christ, chosen and redeemed, let us bow down to this great law and enjoy divinely assured rest.
Abba! Thank you for considering my labour and burden and assuring rest. Let your Spirit help me calm my mind and body. Amen!
