Contentment Required

Lack of contentment makes men go crazy to the extent that their hard-earned millions do not bring them the necessary virtues that only can provide fulfilment, joy and peace to the soul. The attitude of contentment is required based on God's promise of continued presence and required supply, "God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you" (Heb 13:5). Contented soul of David, the shepherd who never failed his flock, sang in joy, "The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing" (Ps 23:1). St. Paul, too, while living the journey of Christian faith, could declare, "I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want" (Phil 4:12). Early Christians, who were anointed and led by the Holy Ghost, remained contented; "And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. . . Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold" (Acts 4:32, 34). Contentment is the expression of strong faith, contentment makes one withstand any situation, and contentment would let him release and share his goods.

 

Abba, help me be content as You are my provider. Let your Spirit remind me of this. Amen.
