Divine Helpline
Governments provide helplines in times of hurricanes, floods, and storms; but sometimes helplines aren’t attended or rescue operations fail. Who on earth can provide such an assurance with authority, “Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” (Ps 50:15)? Divine helplines never fail, as David himself shares the helpline he enjoyed in times of trouble in his personal life and as a king. The convincing tone of David echoes in his hymns abundantly and multiple occasions, “In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me” (Ps 120:1). Not only he received an answer but also obtained safety in high places, “From my distress I called upon the LORD; The LORD answered me and set me in a large place” (Ps 118:5). From deep inside the fish, Jonah called on God, “I called out of my distress to the LORD, And He answered me. I cried for help from the depth of Sheol; You heard my voice” (Jonah 2:2). The unfailing promise of God’s word brought rescue even amidst the roaring sea: “Then the Lord ordered the fish to spew Jonah up on the beach, and it did” (Jonah 2:10). Let’s, then, know to whom we should call out in faith, and enjoy the promised answer and protection, and give glory to Him.
Abba, thank You for being there in my times of trouble. Let your Spirit cry out to you along with me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
