Accompanying Presence
Parents might leave, friends might depart; but the accompanying presence of God, who formed us with infinite love, never departs, “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged” (Deut 31:8). When Moses inquired God of the Name that he had to say unto the Israelites, His response was that about His accompanying presence, “God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM’” (Ex 3:14). And He substantiated the description of His Name and Love by His continual presence in their journey in the desert, “By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night” (Ex 13:21). His Son, who descended unto the earth to redeem the mankind, also promised the accompanying presence to His followers, “And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Mt 28:20). Knowing that He should return to the Father, He promised the divine presence that would remain, guide and guard His beloved, Jesus said, “And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever” (Jn 14:16). Let’s bow down to this privileged mystery that provides us with the ultimate love of accompanying presence.
Abba, we kneel down before You for this love of accompanying presence. Let your Spirit keep reminding us of this love and presence, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
