Guarding Commands
The beauty of the soul shines out and radiates when it remains guiltless and pure. Keeping the commands of God only can achieve the desired goal of the clear conscience. Educating children when they are young, in God’s commandments, is the basic duty entrusted to parents, “You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up” (Deut 6:7). Setting reminders that would constantly bring our attention to the Guarding Commandments is a necessity, “You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates” (Deut 6:8-9). The strength of the soul’s capacity to withstand sin comes by keeping them in memory, “I take pleasure in your laws; your commands I will not forget” (Ps 119:16). Repetition is an assured way to keep anything in memory permanently; hence, let’s take efforts to read and register the Guarding Commandments for our advantage, “I will repeat aloud all the laws you have given” (Ps 119:13). Learning any skill requires discipline and practice and the same is true with Guarding Commands. Let’s share our favorite and personal Guarding Commands and encourage each other.
Abba, thank you for the Guarding Commands. Let your Spirit help us keep them in mind, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Keep me from sin, o healer of my soul. In binding Your commands upon my heart, may my life be a reflection of the purity of Your love*
