He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Are you going to wash my feet, Lord?” Jn 13:6

Cleansing Love

Purification is an act that is done upon any child that arrives unto the earth by the other - a mother, a midwife, or a relative. Life of every believer needs constant cleansing; hence, Christ volunteered while disciples hesitated, “He rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded” (Jn 13:4-5). David wept when he realised his sinfulness that needed an instant cleansing to relieve him of guilt, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (Ps 51:7). The cleansing love of God hurries when we admit our failures and ask for pardon, “I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me.” (Jer 33:8). Let’s remain pure by taking the holy shower that Christ extends from hanging on the cross to redeem the mankind from sin and guilt, “the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 Jn 1:7). Paul encourages the believers of Ephesus to welcome and apply the mystery of His cleansing love, “so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word” (Eph 5:26). O, what a privilege we receive and enjoy to remain clean!

Abba, we submit to this wonderful cleansing love. Let your Spirit bring us constantly closer to you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
