Cheerful Worship
The stadiums of various games and parades of politicians receive huge applause and mass shouting. David reminds us of the basic duty that we have toward the Creator of the entire universe, “O clap your hands, all you people; Shout to God with the voice of triumph and songs of joy!” (Ps 47:1) Our appreciation and gratitude toward the blessings that God has bestowed on us need to be expressed in cheerful worship. The only activity that we do here on earth and can be continued after this life, if we are privileged, is singing and praising before the Holy Throne, as Isaiah has seen in a vision, “And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!’” (Is 6:3). The beloved apostle, who had a rarest opportunity to visit heaven, witnessed the cheerful worship of angels, “The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!’” (Rev 4:8). Singing and clapping not only brings honour to God, but also fills our souls with great joy. As believers we meet often and keep our faith alive by declaring and singing the glorious acts of God.
Abba, thank you for creating us to worship You. Let your Spirit sing with us and shout for joy, in Jesus’ glorious name, Amen.
