You cannot do anything without me. Jn 15:5

Essential Union

Reliance on God was the condition that God extended to mankind for their own protection; but when this was suspected, they went for self-reliance, and the consequence of this is very visible. When His Son came, here on earth, He reaffirmed the condition for prosperity and nourishment, for every individual, for anything and everything: “I am the vine, and you are the branches. If you stay joined to me, and I stay joined to you, then you will produce lots of fruit. But you cannot do anything without me” (Jn 15:5). He chose the twelve, and remained with them to train them with the lessons of unity with Him, that they might share them with mankind; this is vital: “He appointed twelve THAT THEY MIGHT BE WITH HIM and that he might send them out to preach, and to have authority to drive out demons” (Mk 3:14-15). Paul, who had great learning, but did not have this secret, when Christ encountered on his way to Damascus, converted and grabbed this mystery and ran to proclaim, “But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit” (1 Cor 6:17). Let’s remain united with Our Maker as much as possible, in prayer, and learn the beauty of unity and extend it to our family and friends.

Abba, thank you for allowing us to be united, although we are unworthy. Let your Spirit help us cling to You and remain blessed, in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.
