Greetings of Peace
Immediately after His glorious resurrection, Jesus set out to meet His friends, whom He assigned as apostles, to pronounce with authority, the peace that the entire universe was longing to hear: “On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you!’” (Jn 20:19). The world never understands how God fulfils His great prophesies, that He gave through ordinary men, before so many centuries, “A child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our ruler. He will be called, ‘Wonderful Counsellor,’ ‘Mighty God,’ ‘Eternal Father,’ ‘Prince of Peace.’” (Is 9:6). When the time got fulfilled, the announcement was given to the ordinary shepherds, who probably had desired the true peace: “Suddenly a great army of heaven’s angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!’” (Lk 2:13-14). Let’s glorify God for the peace His Son won and left for the world to enjoy.
Abba, thank you for filling our lives and hearts with Your Son’s greetings of peace. Let Your Spirit strengthen our hearts to face the challenges ahead, in Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
