It might appear contrary to the practice of modern business world, but holy scriptures are very clear about the payment of the one who works for you, to be settled that same day, as Tobit advises his son Tobias, regarding the Godly way of living: “Pay the wages of any person who works with you that same day. Don’t delay to pay a person’s wages, and your own wages will certainly not be withheld if you truly serve God. Keep yourself under control, my child, in everything you do and be disciplined in every aspect of your behavior” (Tobit 4:14).  The parable Jesus shared with His audience also highlights the just practice of same day wages, as that is the right and need of the worker: “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’” (Mt 20:8). One of the important laws Moses received from God, and dispensed to his people, regarding workers, insists upon paying the wages by sunset: “You shall give him his wages on his day before the sun sets, for he is poor and sets his heart on it; so that he will not cry against you to the LORD and it become sin in you” (Deut 24:15). Let’s abide by this divinely ordained principle regarding same day wages, and honor God and remain blessed.

Abba, thank You for Your concern for people who labor the whole day. Let Your Spirit set the same day wages as the law in the hearts and minds of all of us. In Jesus’ Most Mighty Name, Amen.
