But when what is perfect comes, then what is partial will disappear. 1 Cor 13:10

Adhering to Perfection

The motive of every Christian should be growing as close as possible to perfection, that can be achieved by meditating and practicing God’s law, as David himself witnesses in his psalm: “The law of the LORD is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple” (Ps 19:7). Personal effort is the necessity and requirement as Paul himself strived towards achieving that, “Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been perfected, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (Phil 3:12). Sure we all have imperfections, and these can be made disappear only by welcoming and accommodating the Perfect—is the secret Paul shares to his audience in Corinth: “But when what is perfect comes, then what is partial will disappear” (1 Cor 13:10). Let’s take at least a small effort every day so that we may approach the perfection.

Abba, thank You for inviting us to come close toward perfection. Let Your Spirit encourage us to take at least one step a day, in Jesus’ Most Holy Name, Amen.
