His Constant Encouragement
Elijah, the greatest prophet, who could shut down the heavens of rain for three and a half years and confront the false prophets by receiving the consuming fire of the Lord from heaven, also fled out of fear in the wilderness and almost gave up: “But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, ‘It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!’” (1 Kings 19:4). God sent His angel to strengthen him with food and message: “Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, 'Arise and eat.' Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again” (1 Kings 19:5-6). Even the word from the angel and food did not help him to stand up with courage, hence God took the second effort by sending an angel again: “And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for you” (1 Kings 19:7). It is not with our knowledge and our strength that we can tread upon the enemy, but by believing in His message and support, we can climb up to meet any challenges.
Abba, thank You for constantly encouraging us even while we still lay down. Let Your Spirit rise us up to grab the victories You hold for us. In Jesus’ Most Mighty Name, Amen.
