Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Deut 6:4

The First Thing

The first thing that God wants His children to hear and know is about His supreme existence. And the next would be embracing the Creator with the passionate love. This can happen when we understand and believe the secret of His existence and the relationship He has with His children: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts” (Deut 6:4-6). As the Father in Heaven taught the thing of primary importance, every human parent should impart this knowledge to the children at any cost. That is why this much of insistence is given that this first thing be firmly recorded and registered in the minds of His beloved children: “Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates” (Deut 6:7-9). May we proclaim this mystery as a sacred duty, and enjoy the fellowship and the promise of our Heavenly Father as our inheritance.

Abba, thank You for teaching us the first thing that we need to learn, understand, and teach. Let Your Spirit inscribe this mystery into our very being, in Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
