There can be no worse situation than being defeated and losing hope. Even family members and friends might abandon us in such situations, but our dear Lord assures His nearness when nobody is there to stand by us or support us. That is the unique love He has for His children, as experienced and sung by the shepherd, David: “The Lord is near to those who are discouraged; he saves those who have lost all hope” (Ps  34:18). Having hope in our abilities at times makes us feel arrogant and keeps us away from God; but hopelessness is the perfect condition that makes us mature in faith and keeps us entirely dependant upon God. God always want His children to depend upon Him despite their talents and wellbeing. May we firmly believe that our God alone can save us from any difficult situation and restore us back to blessedness.

Abba, thank You for giving us Your Word of Assured Nearness. Let Your Spirit make us believe in Your saving plan, in Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
