We all know any civilized society or country is governed by a set of rules that are kept for the safety and wellbeing of each citizen. But at the same time we do feel that it would be better if the rules do not curtail our freedom and demand so much from us. When a question was placed before Jesus, who came from Heaven, regarding the taxes to be paid to the Roman colonizers, His answer was very clear and noteworthy: “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.’ And they were amazed at him” (Mk 12:17). We are obliged to God what is His due, and we are also advised to abide by the laws of the land where we live. May we be wise enough to keep the priorities of God above everything. 

Abba, thank You for asking us to abide by the rules that govern society. Let Your Spirit give us humility and wisdom to follow the necessary, in Jesus’ Most Wonderful Name, Amen.
