His Love Surprises
We sometimes think that God loves us only when we are good and holy. Of course, He desires goodness and holiness, yet He has special love for people who are condemned as sinners. It was unaccepted that the Master Teacher like Him have a conversation with a woman, a Samaritan and the one who did not have a very good reputation. But Jesus, not only talked to her, but also revealed the spiritual secrets of worshiping God in spirit, His messianic identity, and gave the provision of drinking from His fountain. This generosity of His literally surprised the disciples: “And upon this came his disciples; and they marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?” (Jn 4:27). May we be grateful to God for this merciful love that disregards our sinfulness and shame, and invites us for for fellowship and discipleship.
Abba, Thank You for valuing us despite our sinfulness and weakness. Let Your Spirit make us enjoy this forgiving love, In Jesus’ Most Loving Name, Amen.
