Prayers Are Needed
Things that are animate express their liveliness by externally visible growth. We, human beings, who hold the higher order of creation, need to grow and develop in attributes that are unique to mankind. Development and growth in the realm of interpersonal relationship are so important and vital for living in any human society. As Christians, we have an additional moral responsibility of setting high examples to others, as instructed and expected by our Master, Jesus: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Mt 5:16) The maturity and progress in the sphere of high human attributes, such as love, understanding, discernment, wisdom and holiness, need supply from God. Paul, realizing this need, offers sincerest prayers for the believers: “And this is my prayer: I pray that your love will grow more and more. I pray that you will have better understanding and be wise in all things. I pray that you will know what is the very best. I pray that you will be true and without blame until the day Christ comes again.” (Phil 1:9-10) Human efforts alone cannot meet with this need; it requires something more than that and they are prayers. May we grow and spread the light by praying, like Paul, for our beloved ones and those living around us, for prayer alone can make us mature in these virtues and gifts.
Abba, Thank You for making us grow and mature in love, understanding, wisdom, discernment, and desire for holiness. Let Your Spirit remind us to pray for our growth and those who are in need of progress, In Jesus’ Most Uplifting Name, Amen.
