Comfort in Desert
Desert is described as a barren place, a desolate area, a dry region of little rainfall, extreme temperatures and sparse vegetation, entirely devoid of life, an empty or forsaken place. Who on earth would dare or desire to enter into such a place unless a situation or condition moves them there. The body and the soul both experience the feeling of the land and crave for any assistance that can only come from the intervention of God; hence, raises the level of thirst for God, too. Hagar, Moses, the people of Israel, David, Elijah, John the Baptist, Jesus, and Paul went through the experience of the desert and encountered favours and supernatural provisions from God. Feeling of dryness, emptiness, loneliness, fear and disbelief are some of the things that crush the spirit of the individual, but survival after that puts in them courage, faith and hope that nobody can expect to possess or develop in any other conditions. David’s cry and thirst set an example of behaviour that we need to wear and maintain in such situation, that is turning his anguish and pain into composing of the faith-filled songs of prayer, that wrought God’s providence and love: “O God, You are my God; I shall seek You earnestly; My soul thirsts for You, my flesh yearns for You, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.” (Ps 63:1) May we trust and depend on the unfailing promise of God that takes the responsibility in such needful situations: “For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and streams upon the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring.”(Is 44:3) Let us believe and wait to receive the mighty outpouring of His Spirit, that quenches the thirst of the body, soul and spirit with anointing and blessing beyond imagination.
Abba, Thank You for the leading in the wilderness and promise of the outpouring. Let Your Spirit satisfy both the body and the spirit to the full, In Jesus’ Most Compassionate Name, Amen.
