People whom we trust and count on may abandon us when we need them to comfort us and extend support. But that is when we need to the One who has promised to accompany us in our journey, regardless of whether the situation is favourable or not. Moses convincingly stated and strengthened Joshua with these powerful words of assurance: “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” (Dt 31:8) God has not promised that we will never experience low tidings in our voyage of life; He has only assured His never failing presence that will stay close to us whatever we go through. David understood this pledge of God and totally believed His assurance; that is why he could sing: “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (Ps 23:4) May we never lose heart when we have to go through tough times, for His presence will never leave us and He stays with us as He knows that He alone can console us.

Abba, thank You for personally going along with us in our need for support. Let Your Spirit make us feel and experience Your ever abiding  presence, In Jesus’ Most Consoling Name, Amen.
