Aim the Eternal
An eagle as a flyer achieves its goal of the highest altitude, when it spreads its mighty wings and sours high up in the glorious sky. So is the vocation of the Christian. Determined to embrace the eternal, he should be willing to flee himself from the passions that cling him to the temporal, in view of capturing and possessing the eternal and the imperishable. The speed is the element that lifts the carrier, off the ground, and sets it to float or flap in the air. Ardent desire and fervent faith fuel our life of eternity, and that needs to be demonstrated in the disciplined exercise of the spirit on daily basis, as Paul writes: “All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally.” (1 Cor 9:25) And then, the reward that the apostle entices us to capture becomes ours: “Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses.” (1 Tim 6:12) May we set our eyes upon the imperishable crown that awaits for such valiant soldiers of faith.
Abba, Thank You for inviting us to partake in the gift of the eternal. Let Your Spirit make us prepare to take up the discipline that makes us warriors of faith, In Jesus’ Most Powerful Name, Amen.
